PROJECTS / FIRE PROTECTION FACILITIES / Decatur Illinois Fire Station #1
This state-of-the-art fire station/headquarters for the City of Decatur is one example of why BWC has become a leader in fire station design.  This headquarters, with 29,000 sq. ft., can support up to seventeen firefighters per shift, houses administrative offices and an office for the local Fire Marshall.

It also contains a large meeting room which is open to the public for reserved use.  A full basement provides ample storage and fitness training space.

Understanding the pressures faced by today’s firefighters.  The second floor was designed exclusively to serve the firefighters’ needs and includes such amenities as a private TV/card room, large kitchen which opens onto an exterior wooden deck and individual dormitory cubicles which allow for some privacy while relaxing in bed.

Materials were carefully selected in conjunction with the station’s desire for quality materials while maintaining a residential appeal.

The apparatus bay and storage area includes five bays (three drive-through), SCUBA and SCBA storage rooms, turnout gear storage, and general storage.  A special vehicle exhaust system was also a part of the design.
