PROJECTS
/ HIGHWAYS
AND BRIDGES
/ Martin Luther King, Jr., Drive |
The
extension of Martin Luther King, Jr., Drive between
Pershing Road and Mound Road in Decatur, Illinois, was
one element of a project providing access to prime
commercial development sites on the northeast quadrant
of the I-72/US-51 interchange. |
 |
Access
rights were purchased from adjacent property owners
along new alignment in order to provide a limited
access, four-lane urban thoroughfare to handle the
projected heavy traffic associated with the future
developments. |
The
roadway extension was designed with for 12’ lanes,
with sidewalk, access control fencing, and
landscaping. |
 |
 |
Project
included 79’ Spring Creek Bridge.
Also included in the project were two
intersections, with signalization, one of which
required a major intersection design study, drainage
studies, and 12” to 48” storm sewer. |
