Flooding from Stevens Creek necessitated elevating the
existing roadway leading to Fairview Park Swimming Pool.
Construction of an adjacent bike trail was to be
incorporated in the Rock Springs/Fairview Park Bikeway, a
2.54 mile paved trail linking Fairview Park, Kiwanis Park,
and Rock Springs Center for Environmental Discovery.
The Bikeway allows bicyclists, joggers, and walkers
to travel from a trail entrance parking in scenic Fairview
Park, journey along a secluded route overlooking Stevens
Creek into the heavily wooded areas of Rock Springs, past
the wetlands development areas, into the deep shadows of
the pine forest, and finally arrive at the Rock Springs
Center for Environmental Discovery. |

In addition to the roadway and trail design, BWC
provided preparation of a 404 Permit Application due to
potential affect of roadway realignment on Stevens Creek
Floodway. Application
was approved by: Illinois
Environmental Protection Agency; Illinois Department of
Transportation, Division of Water Resources; Illinois Department
of Conservation; and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
